    Somalia President meets world leaders in Japan

Mogadishu, QN - President of the Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamudmet in Japan with world leaders including the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.

President and Ban Ki-Moon discussed key issues including the new UN Mission to Somalia UNSOM, which is officially replacing the United Nation's Political office for Somalia UNPOS from Monday June 3, 2013.

The Somalia President thanked UN boss for the UN role in Somalia reconciliation, police and justice reform and development.

The Somalia president said, "Poverty remains the root cause of piracy and terrorism affecting not only Somalia but also the entire region and the world at large" he added "Somalia can become a very useful nation, if we can stabilize and revive its economy, reform the Judicial system, and shift in public affairs management and strengthening of capacity among the people through training, so we need the support of the international community to address these problems"


Ban Ki-Moon promised that the UN would continue to support Somalia to ensure the socio-economic and political pillars are enhanced to create a conducive environment for business to flourish, bring conflicts to an end and enable the people to have improved livelihoods.

He called for fast tracking of the peace process in Somalia to create an enabling environment to attract investors and democracy to take root in Somalia.

Ban Ki-moon stated that the tension in Kismayo could be a clear indication of the need for political dialogue and reconciliation among the Somalia people in order to foster a peaceful coexistence and ensure the rule of law takes root.

The Somalia President also met with the hosting Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and discussed about the revival of the Somalia-Japan relationship and PM Abe announced that his country donates $55 million dollars to Somalia.

The President also met with the South African President Jacob Zuma, Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto, President Salva Kiir of Southern Sudan, the Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete, the President of Djibouti Ismail Omar Guelleh among other leaders who were all among the African leaders attending the Tokyo Summit on African Development.

The President requested the African and world leaders to support Somalia to raise from the ruines of the two decades of conflict and civil war and restand on its feet.
