Mogadishu, QN - Reports from Barawe town 180kms from south of Mogadishu confirm that Alshabab two Alshabab groups fought in the town and killed dozens of their fighters among the senior leaders and foreigners.
A source in Barawe, which requested anonymity for security reasons confirmed that the fighting broke out between the two Alshabab groups after supporters of Alshabab leader Ahmed Abdi Godane aka Abu Zubeyr killed a Sudanese national in Barawe.
The Sudanese was allied to a group of foreign fighters allied to Sheikh Mukhtar Robow Ali aka Abu Mansur and American Jihadist Omar Hammami aka Abu Mansur Al Amriki, and their supporters fought against those who killed the Sudanese.
According to sources in Barawe, today's fighting killed a dozen of Alshabab fighters, among them Sheikh Ibrahim Haji Jama aka Ibrahim Afghani, who is known in Alshabab as Sheikh Abubakr Al-Zaylaci.
The fate of Sheikh Hassan Dahir Aweys and Sheikh Mukhtar Robow Ali is unclear, but the reports also confirm that there is sensitivity in Bakol Region where Robow stays now.
The division among the group escalated after several controversial letters from both side were published in the internet and Al Amriki escaped at least two live attempts.
Alshabab fighters claimed the responsibility of deadly UN compound attack, which attracted high level condemnations from inside and ouside of the country.
