Mohamed Osman — QN - Second phase of talks between the Somali Federal Government and Somaliland breakaway administration of Northern Somalia, has officially started in Istanbul city, the capital city Turkey as the two delegations reached there on Sunday and met with Turkey foreign minister Ahmed Davutoglu.
According to the Somalia National News Agency —SONNA, Khalid Omar Ali, the secretary of the government’s assigned committee of the talks, confirmed that the talks officially started Monday in Istanbul.
Ali said, “We are preparing the bilateral agenda, we selected two committee members from each side, the four will prepare the agenda”
“They will come up with good agenda and dialogue will be between the two sides, we have no indicators third actors, so that talks will be very crucial.”
Turkish foreign minister, Davutoglu held a joint meeting with two delegations Istanbul and told them that the starting conference is in a continuation of the talks that began on April 13, 2013 in Ankara.
Davutoglu said, "The relations between Somalia, Somaliland and Turkey are beyond any kind of borders, despite geographical distance, historically we are like a family."
"These efforts are part of our historic responsibility, as well as a humanitarian responsibility and an indispensable part of our active diplomatic policy in Africa."
Though the Somali people are not expecting big progress from the meeting, the two sides are expected to discuss on important issues including security, resource sharing, counter terrorism, piracy and the free movements of the people from two sides.
Somalia government had meetings with Somaliland breakaway administration in London, Dubai and Istanbul but the result is yet beyond the reality.
