Barawe, QN - At least one militant fighter was killed and another was wounded after heavily armed foreign forces stormed a house in Barawe town early Saturday, witnesses confirmed.
Alshabab fighters responded with heavy fire, forcing the attacking forces to retreat to their boats and then to their warships after minutes of heavy fire exchange between the fighters in the house who mostly escaped and foreign forces.
According to residents in Barawe, the foreign forces with two tag boats and assisted by a warship launched offensive on a house close to the coast, firing from the front gate and the left corner of the house and killed at least one person in the house.
"The house hosted foreign fighters, it was like their base, but most of them escaped when the attack started" said a resident who requested anonymity for safety reasons.
"The forces looked white people, I didn't see them in person but the rumors in the town say that they were white, they were well equiped, they were targeting the certain house and burnt it down with fire" he added.
Alshabab information office confirmed the attack, but their websites published controversial information of who was in the house.
One of the group's websites supporting the Mukhtar Robow wing of Alshabab published that the targeted house was a residence for foreign fighters who were not happy with the leadership of Godane.
Robow's supporters indicated that they suspect Godane's team was involved in the attack, which they said "targeted some anti Godane Jihadists with foreign nationalities"
The websites supporting Godane, the chief of Alshabab published that there was a failed over night operation which targeted a house in Barawe.
The Godane supporters didn't mention who was targeted, but claimed that enemies of Jihad were behind the attack, which they said "was foiled by Alshabab fighters who confronted the attacking foreign forces"
Earlier this year French forces launched over night attack in Bulmarer town in Lower Shabelle region in an attempt to rescue a late French spy who was held hostage by Alshabab.
The French operation ended with tragedy after Alshabab killed the hostage and two more French's attacking commandos and French forces killed dozens of civilians and some fighters.
There is no government that claimed the responsibility of the attack, but its coming two weeks after the Westgate mall siege in Kenya, which claimed over 70 people including dozens of westerners.
