    Somalia: Deadly explosions in Baidoa city claimed 18 people dead

    MOGADISHU, 05 Dec. 2014, (QalinNews) – At least 18 people were killed and more than 40 others were wounded on Friday evening in Baidoa town after twin suicide explosions rocked a hotel and a restaurant in centre of the town.

MOGADISHU, 05 Dec. 2014, (QalinNews) – At least 18 people were killed and more than 40 others were wounded on Friday evening in Baidoa town after twin suicide explosions rocked a hotel and a restaurant in centre of the town.

The governor of Bay Region Abdi Adam Hosow confirmed the deadly blasts and called it a "Cowardly” attack targeted to innocent civilians resting in the restaurant lobby.

Hosow speaking to VOA Somalia Serves said, "Two heavy explosions targeted to an overcrowded restaurant killed eleven people as I know now, 3 of them are journalists" "The casualty may increase, the rescue teams and ambulances are hardly working on rescuing the people" 

Ibra Hassan Nur, a witness, who saw the car hitting the gate of Baidoa Hotel told Qalin that what he saw was horrific moments and very shocking.

"I saw a UD track hitting on the tree in front of the Hotel, it was looking like accident but when it exploded I saw heavy smoke, them fire raising up from the smoke and them heavy bang" "I docked down and started taking a safe position, and then I saw people crying for help, blood flooding on the ground and the remains of the car buring"

Both Somali National Army in the region assisted by AMISOM forces condoned the crime scene and started immediate investigation.

Baidoa city is located 240 KM South West of the capital Mogadishu was relatively quite compared to Mogadishu, but it was in political tense for the last 4 weeks.

The newly elected leader of the Interim South West State of Somalia, Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adan, was inaugurated in Baidoa yesterday with the presence of President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

This week, a vehicle borne improvised explosive device targeted a United Nations convoy in the vicinity of Mogadishu international airport and killed 7 people including 4 guards and 3 civilians.
