Mogadishu, 17 Dec. 2014, (Qalin) – Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud nominated on Wednesday Omar Abdirashid Ali as the new Prime Minister of Somalia after the Parliament sacked the former PM Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed early this month.
The nomination of Sharmaarke, the current Somalia ambassador to the US ceremony came after two weeks of struggle, which the president and his allies wanted to get a figure that attract both the Somali people and the international stake holders of Somalia.
At the nomination ceremony, the president aid, "Gentleman
and ladies, the members of the parliament and the international community it is pleasure for me to nominate Mr. Omar Abdirashid Sharmaarke as the new PM of Somalia. He will replace Mr. Abdiweli Sheikh Ahmed the former PM”
"I am sure he will be capable to fulfill his duty, I recommend him to form a capable cabinet in order to make the
country reach the goals of the vision 2016” the president added.
The newly appointment PM Sharmaarke, who was standing next
to the President accepted the nomination and promised to lead the country to
the good direction and development.
Sharmaarke is the son of former Somalia president Abdirashid Ali Sharmaarke, who was
assassinated in October 1969, a week before the military coup d'état,which ruled the country until 1991.
Sharmaarke 54, was born on 19 June 1960, he was educated in
Somalia and Canada and he is a Somali Canadian citizen. Currently, he is the first Somalia ambassador to the US since 1991 when the Somalia government
collapsed.
