Double Olympic champion Mo Farah will target a fifth straight victory in the London 10,000 road race later this month, organisers have announced.
Farah has been ever-present since the event's launch in 2008 and has set two British records during his four wins.
The 30-year-old's triumph last year came ahead of his victories over 5,000m and 10,000m at the London Olympics.The Somalia-born athlete will use the event, on May 27, as preparation for the World Championships in August.His main threat in the London event could be training partner Scott Overall, who was third 12 months ago but dropped out of the London Marathon in April with a knee injury.Farah ran half of the 26.2-mile race as part of his preparations to run the full distance in 2014. He was criticised in the build-up to the race as he will be paid a reported £425,000 for taking part in the 2013 and 2014 events.Amy Whitehead leads the women's field on her debut in the London 10,000. She was 13th in the London Marathon, the second Briton home behind Susan Partridge.The 34-year-old will line up against Steph Twell, the former world junior 1,500m champion and three-time European junior cross country winner, who will also contest the Westminster Mile 24 hours earlier.
