Mogadishu, 10 Dec. 2015 (Qalin) - The Somali federal government is hosting IGAD's foreign ministers meeting in Mogadishu in today, 10th January, 015 for the first time following decades of civil war and instability in the war-torn state. Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud opened this historic session
for the African ministers , the capital’s security is put on the
highest alert and extra troops is deployed to major roads to conduct
anti-terror attacks and sweeps prior to the ministerial summit.
"It is a chance for me and the nation to host this regional meeting in
Mogadishu, our meeting is officially opened” said President Hassan
Shiekh Mohamud
The meeting will take one day of 10th, January, 015 in Mogadishu that
attended different international and regional delegates from the
African Union, Soomalia foreign minister H.E. Dr. Abdirahman Dualeh
Beileh , Ethiopia H.E. Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus , Djibouti H.E.
Mahamoud Ali Youssouf, South Sudan H.E. Dr. Barnaba Marial Benjamin ,
Sudan H.E. Ali Karti , Kenya Amb. Amina Mohamed, Uganda H.E. Henry
Okello Oryem and General Secratery of IGAD Eng. Mahboub Maalim. And
other guests from UN, EU and other countries and organizations
interesting Somalia progress are also participating to the meeting.
IGAD was supersede from IGADD on 21 March, 1996 in Nairobi Kenya that
was established in 1986 in Djibouti by six countries in Horn of
Africa, including Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Djibouti, Uganda, Sudan,
where Eretria and South Sudan joined later as IGAD membership status.
Despite the decades of anarchy, Somalia was a member of the regional
body of Inter-government Authority on Development (IGAD) for East
African countries
It is the second time Somalia hosts African summits at Continental and
Regional level, 1974 hosted the creation of African Union summit and
2015 is hosting IGAD ministerial meeting to which intended to prove
that Somalia retrieve from civil war and have relative peace and
secure environment that regional and international community can meet
and have ground presence despite the terror attacks in the city.
The spokesman of the Presidential palace told EFE that the agenda of
the IGAD meeting is Security, reconciliation, democracy and good
governance to be discussed on what have a achieved so far and what
next to do for state rebuilding.
"Somalia got a chance to host the IGAD ministerial summit after 29
years to its establishment, as to focus on Somalia’s security,
reconciliation and good governance sectors” said Daud Aways
presidential spokesman
After the discussion of the meeting agenda, the summit will produce a
comprehensive communiqué that will support the government’s vision to
rebuild a federal, democratic state with secure environment.
